Year Appointed: Deborah Hernandez Mitchell was appointed to Division 22 of the 18th Judicial District Court in August 2015 by Governor Sam Brownback.

Education: Judge Mitchell earned her B.A. in Economics, Masters of Business Administration and Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas
Prior Work: From 2003 until her appointment, Judge Mitchell was in private practice at Woodard, Hernandez, Roth & Day, L.L.C. She handled general litigation matters, both plaintiff and defense, as well as some medical malpractice defense, and workers compensation. Judge Mitchell was an in-house corporate attorney for Triad Associates for six years focusing on matters of contract, employment, business organizations, real estate, and franchise law. Judge Mitchell started her legal career in 1994 as an Assistant District Attorney here in Sedgwick County. She has participated in many trials, both criminal and civil. In addition to practicing law, Judge Mitchell has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in business law, human resources, and economics since 2000.
